*Superpowers – literally: Reading and writing enable us to travel through time and space, to read the minds and feelings of fellow people, to speak to people who aren’t [yet] there and to create new worlds.

Once a first-generation college student, I now coach college students in reading and writing so that they can acquire the habits of creative minds, make the most of their immersion in the intellectual communities of the University, and contribute the work of their hearts and minds to solve our world’s complex problems.

A long-suffering fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves, I nevertheless hold on to the hope that this year is the year it all comes together.

I’m proud to be part of the team at the UNE Student Academic Success Center, one of just six National College Learning Center Association Learning Centers of Excellence nationwide.
